Spider Pumpkins

Source: Martha Stewart Living, October 2003

Green gourds cut in half and attached to pumpkins with toothpicks turn a traditional jack-o'-lantern into a sinister setting for spiders.

  • Pumpkin

  • Toothpicks

  • Small green gourd(s)

  • Grease pencil or marker

  • Linoleum cutter

  1. Slice a small green gourd in half and attach to pumpkin with toothpicks.

  2. Draw 8 legs and 2 antennae around gourd with a grease pencil or marker. Remove gourd while you carve the drawn appendages into the top layer (orange skin) of the pumpkin with a linoleum cutter.

  3. Replace gourd on toothpicks and light from within.
