Plenty of rain may help your garden grow, but it also creates lots of mud. You can prevent your garden paths and rows from becoming excessively muddy and compacted by mulching them with salt hay.
Mulching not only helps you avoid getting splattered with mud, it will also enhance the look of your garden. Best of all, it enriches the soil since it acts as an organic composting medium.
Never use feed hay for your mulch. It is extremely invasive and packed with seeds, meaning it will self-sow within days and become very hard to get rid of. Instead, break up a bale of salt hay and apply a thin coating on your garden paths, making sure that the salt hay retains a light, fluffy consistency.
