Holiday Hostess Gift

A hostess gift offers a wonderful way to show how much you appreciate a friend’s or family member’s hospitality.


Wrapped in cellophane, encased in an attractive container, and tied with a pretty ribbon, a flavorful combination of nuts and fresh and dried fruits makes a lovely gift; include a nutcracker and nutpick to complete the package. Martha uses a small galvanized pot for this project, but you can use any kind of container you desire.


  • Cellophane bag

  • Container

  • Fresh fruit

  • Dried fruit

  • Almonds

  • Walnuts

  • Pecans

  • Brazil nuts

  • Chocolate hazelnuts

  • Ribbon, twine, or raffia

  • Gift tag (optional)

  • Dried berries, holly, or rose hips for decoration (optional)

  • Nutcracker

  • Nutpick


  1. Place the cellophane bag in the container, then fill the bag with fruits and nuts.

  2. Tie the bag at the top with ribbon, leaving some cellophane free above the ribbon for a ruffled effect. Attach a gift tag or the dried berries, holly, or rose hips to the ribbon, if desired.

  3. Tuck the nutcracker and nutpick into the side of the container. You can also wrap the ribbon around the nutcracker before tying the bag.
