Paint-Stirrer Swatch

Martha Stewart Living Television

When you paint walls or furniture around your house, it's wise to keep a record of the paint you used, in case you need to buy more later for touch-ups or new pieces. A simple way to do this is to dip a paint stirrer in each can, let the paint dry, and write on the handle with a permanent marker. Be sure you record the brand, the precise color name, the place or object on which you used the paint, and the type of paint (for example, "latex flat"). Drill a hole near the top of the handle, and thread it with sturdy twine. You can store many stirrers together in a ring, and the loop of connecting twine hangs perfectly on a nail inside a cupboard.
