Halloween Makeup Tips from Charlie Green

The Martha Stewart Show, October 2010

Makeup artist Charlie Green has beautified some famous faces: Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, and Martha herself.

But it doesn't take an expert to create frightening Halloween looks using everyday makeup. Here are some of Charlie's secrets to creating scary effects with makeup and household materials.

Use What You Have
Halloween-specific makeup or face paint isn't necessary -- most of the time you can use "traditional" makeup to create fun looks for Halloween. Be creative!

Glue Stick Trick
Glue sticks can be helpful to secure stray hairs while applying makeup to the edge of the face or near the eyebrows. Don't worry about damaging your hair -- glue comes off with soap and water and won't do any harm.

Glitter Application
Glitter can add pizzazz to your look, but not if it falls off your face throughout the night. Keep it there by applying a little hair gel to your face before sprinkling it on.

Start Light
Before drawing any dark lines on the face, lightly outline with beige pencil. It's easier wipe off if you make a mistake.
