Cheap, small, and easy to care for, tarantulas can make good pets.

You may not have considered owning a tarantula, but these invertebrates take up little space, don't make much noise, and are relatively inexpensive. As for their sinister reputation, they haven't done much to earn it. The Chilean Rose tarantula, which is the most commonly kept of its species, does not have a lethal bite, can be kept in a 10-gallon glass tank with a locking screen cover, and requires only a few crickets for food each week.
