Beauty Products That Do Double Duty
As much as we'd like to sit at a vanity table every morning, leisurely sipping a cup of tea and eating a croissant while applying an extensive skincare and makeup routine, the fact of the matter is that our busy schedules don't always allow it. And honestly, who doesn't want to press the snooze button a few more times? Sleep is an important part of any good beauty regimen, after all. In fact, experts say that when you're in a deep, restful state, and not under attack by UV rays and pollution, cell turnover and collagen production can work their magic on your skin. Furthermore, after an initial dip—during that early phase of dozing off—your body temperature rises while you sleep, making skin more receptive to the active ingredients you put on top (like retinol, serums, and hydrating moisturizers, which are all best applied overnight).
Another point in favor of more sleep: There are so many effective, high-quality multitasking beauty products out there, and using them regularly means you won't need to allot that much time to getting ready each the morning. Using products that do double-duty can save you a lot of things, actually: money, time, space in your makeup bag, and weight when you're taking them with you on a flight.
Believe it or not, some of the best multitaskers today are blushes. They'll help you pare down your routine in a modern, monochromatic way—and a single cream blush that can deliver an all-over glow. Dab it on your cheeks, lids, and lips with your ring finger, and vary the intensity, says Chicago-based makeup artist Sophia Porter: "Play up one feature, while giving the others a more muted tint." Then gently tap to blend it in and lift away any excess. The right shade will make you look fresh, not overly flushed. Warm terra-cotta or peach looks natural on skin with golden or yellow undertones; cool roses flatter pink complexions; and plums are prettiest on olive or darker ones.
Here, we've rounded up several more of our favorite multitasking items (blushes and beyond!) that you'll love to use. Plus, they're also super portable, easy to apply, and a joy to use, which means you can touch up your face quickly without making a mess.
Spread this buildable coconut oil-based formula across your lips and cheeks for a wash of lit-from-within color. The best part however, isn't the fact that the product works double duty—it's actually full of nourishing ingredients that leaves your skin better than it was before.
