A tipple of ginger liqueur adds zip and complexity to this tart cherry riff on a margarita. To prep a batch for friends, add the ingredients to a jar the night before and refrigerate. When cocktail hour arrives you can simply add ice to the jar, stir, and strain the ruby red elixir into glasses.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces blanco tequila

  • 1 ounce ginger liqueur, such as Domaine de Canton

  • 2 ounces chilled unsweetened pure tart-cherry juice (we like Ocean Spray)

  • ½ ounce fresh lime juice

  • Luxardo cherry and a fresh ginger slice, for garnish

Directions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add tequila, ginger liqueur, cherry juice, and lime juice. Gently stir about 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled coupe glass; garnish with cherry and ginger slice. Serve immediately.

Cook's Notes

For a clear ruby color, stir (don't shake) this drink.

Use unsweetened 100 percent tart cherry juice in this Margarita for true fruit flavor. Look for it near other shelf-stable juices or in the refrigerated-drink aisle.
