The amount of material you need will depend on the height and circumference of your basket and the pattern you desire, but the measurements should be of a width equal to or less than the width of your basket's openings.

What you need

Materials

Wire or metal laundry basket with wide openings (Yamazaki Tosca Round Laundry Hamper, $50, containerstore.com; Yamazaki Tosca Rectangular Laundry Basket, $55, burkedecor.com)
Sturdy, colorfast material, such as Shaker tape, cotton tape, or felt
Fast-drying glue (Beacon Magna-Tac, $14.39, amazon.com)
Sewing supplies (optional)

How to do it

Step 1

Working horizontally, weave the material between the openings of the basket, working it in and out over the wire frame. If desired, repeat vertically.

Step 2

Secure the ends of the material to each other with glue or a few stitches. If working vertically, secure the ends to themselves at the inside of the basket with glue or a few stitches.
