How to do it

Part 1

striped pirate costume skirt
Step 1

For the skirt: Sew the black and white skirt from striped fabric, cutting the fabric to twice the waist measurement. Fold over the top of the fabric by 1 inch and sew a channel for the elastic, leaving a 2-inch opening on one side.

Step 2

Feed elastic cord through the opening of the channel. Sew the ends of the elastic together and then finish sewing up the channel.

Step 3

Using scissors, cut triangular shapes out of the bottom of the skirt to create a jagged edge.

Step 4

For the shirt: Trim the shirt sleeves into a similar jagged edge like the skirt. Use hot glue to attach the 1/2-inch grosgrain ribbon in a crisscross pattern to the shirt front.

Step 5

For gold treasure "buttons" adorning the shirt front: Fill gem mold with hot glue; let cool completely. Pop buttons from the gem mold and coat each with gold nail polish; let dry completely. Hot glue buttons onto each ribbon end on the front of shirt.
