This Southern-style compound butter is worthy of the holiday table. Folding in flecks of country ham and fresh grated ginger gave the butter a welcome salinity and zip. It's the perfect spread for serving with sides like these Slow-Baked Sweet Potatoes or Crusty Buttermilk Biscuits.

Ingredients

  • 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature

  • 2 teaspoons finely grated fresh ginger (from a 1-inch piece)

  • 3 tablespoons finely minced country ham

  • 1 teaspoon honey

  • Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

Directions

  1. Stir together butter, ginger, ham, and honey; season with 1/4 teaspoon salt and a pinch of pepper. (Butter can be refrigerated in an airtight container up to 1 week.)

Cook's Notes

For the best flavor, make this a day ahead and refrigerate in an airtight container. Return to room temperature before serving.
