Martha Reveals the Secret Menu Item She Orders at Nobu Fifty Seven

While most people assume you can only order off a restaurant's menu, that's not always the case. On a new episode of the Cooking Channel's The Best Thing I Ever Ate, which centers around celebrities' favorite Asian dishes, Martha appears alongside celebrity restaurateur Wolfgang Puck and Food Network star Alex Guarnaschelli to share the meal she loves to order at Nobu Fifty Seven. As it turns out, her favorite dish is one you may have to ask for by special request.

"When I go to Nobu Fifty Seven, I go right up the stairs-very, very steep stairs for people who are going to consume quantities of sake," Martha says with a smile. "Nobu Fifty Seven makes very exquisite sukiyaki with wagyu beef. It's just incredible, and so, so tender." The savory dish isn't always on Nobu's menu, however: "Sukiyaki is a special order, by the way, but you can ask in advance, just to make sure they'll make it," our founder explains.

If you've never tried sukiyaki before, it's a classic Japanese approach to cooking tableside, and it's reminiscent of a Korean hot pot. The dish consists of thinly sliced beef, fresh veggies, and noodles that are cooked right at the table in a pool of soy, mirin, and sugar. According to Eater, the meal is presented in a shallow cast-iron pot, and after all the ingredients are cooked, they're traditionally dipped into a bowl of raw eggs.

This isn't the first time that our founder revealed that she loves to order special menu items, either. On an earlier episode of The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Martha took us to Estiatorio Milos in Midtown Manhattan, where she frequently orders the "Milos' special" tower of thinly shaved zucchini and eggplant that's fried to perfection.
