materials

  • Glass vases

  • Newspaper

  • Glass paint (Pictured: Pēbēo Vitrea 160 Glass Paint, in Sun Yellow, Bengal Pink, and Veil White, $6.19 for 45 ml, dickblick.com.)

  • Glass paint thinner (Pictured: Pēbēo Vitrea 160 Paint Thinner, $6.19 for 45 ml, dickblick.com.)

  • Cup or pint container

steps

  1. Cover work surface with newspaper. Combine glass paint and a little thinner. Pour about two tablespoons of the mixture into vase. Slowly tilt and spin vase to coat entire interior with paint mixture, then set vase upside-down on the opening of a cup or open pint container so its lip is suspended and the excess can drip out. Let dry completely, for at least a day.

  2. Heat-set paint and make vase washable by baking it in the oven on a sheet at 325 degrees for 40 minutes.
