The pretty, muted hues on our DIY stool will give any neutral bathroom a lift. Choose a wear-resistant formula that dries to a hard, furniture-quality finish. We used Benjamin Moore Advance semigloss interior paint, top to bottom in Sweet and Sour, Cork, Mountain Moss, and Normandy.

Paint the box sides to go with your décor (the color on this wall is Ralph Lauren's Iceberg), and split the difference on top, using painters' tape to ensure a crisp line.
To make your box slipproof, mix a handful of hardwarestore playground sand into the tray for the two paints on top (traction: check), then add clear adhesive pads on the bottom corners.
