These Outdoor Features are Proven to Increase Your Home's Value
When it comes to selling your home for the best possible price this summer, it may be what's outside that counts.
According to a recent report from Realtor.com, the right outdoor amenities could increase your home's value by 10 percent over comparable listings. And one extra-special feature can rake in as much as 97 percent more on average.
"Outdoor features can give a home a special quality in the market," Javier Vivas, Realtor.com's director of economic research, explained. "And anytime you have a unique feature, it can bolster the prospective value of a home."
Summer is all about al-fresco entertaining, which is why it makes sense for homes with barbecue stations to sell for 26 percent more than those without. Similarly, pools with enough space around them comfortable summertime lounging also gave home prices a 26 percent boost, Realtor.com reports. In the same league are ever-popular fire pits, which gave residences a 25 percent hike.
"It's an entertaining feature," Vivas said of fire pits. "It's one of those things that can let you enjoy your home with more people."
But those looking to get the biggest return on their investment should install an outdoor shower ASAP. And we mean ASAP. According to Realtor.com research, homes with outdoor showers saw an average of 97 percent price-per-square-foot premium nationwide-including a 140 percent increase in South Carolina.
