These costume ideas come from our friends at Primary.com and were made at our Punny Valentine's Day Kids Crafternoon. This costume idea comes from our friends at Primary.com. Complete any crewneck with a collar and add a scepter (made out of dowels and felted heart cut-outs) for one regal finish.

How to do it

Part 1

Step 1

To make each scepter: Cut out two matching red felt hearts for each scepter. Hot glue and stuff a set of hearts together, leaving the bottom point open enough for the dowel to fit through. Insert the dowel into the bottom of the heart and hot glue together. Glue a red pom pom to the bottom end of the dowel. Then, cut two lengths of gold ribbon to loop and criss cross over the heart. Glue to the base of the heart, and glue the ribbon together at the top above the heart. Wrap a smaller length of ribbon around the heart base to cover the ribbon ends and glue together. Cut a small length of ribbon and glue into a loop. Glue to the top where the longer ribbons intersect. Glue blue and white gems around the base, top, and center of the gold ribbon.

Step 2

For the King, cut one small gold glitter heart and four larger gold hearts. Glue a pin to the back of each heart. For the Queen, cut three small gold glitter hearts and two larger hearts. Glue a pin to the back of each heart.

Step 3

To make the crowns: Download and print template; trace crown onto the gold glitter cardstock. Cut out and glue a red glitter heart to the center. Glue a round blue gemstone to each point of the crown, and glue a small white gem below the heart. Cut a 1-inch tall length of cardstock and staple to the end of the crown. Loop around child's head for sizing and trim off any excess length. Staple the remaining end to the other end of the crown.

Step 4

To assemble: For the King, pin the small heart to the top center of the crewneck sweater. Pin a larger heart to each shoulder and each knee. Wear the crown and hold the scepter. For the Queen, pin the smaller three hearts above the cardigan buttons, spacing them out evenly. Cinch up the first layer of the reversible twirly skirt in two places on the front, and pin the two larger hearts at each cinch. Wear the crown and hold the scepter.
