Enter the Forest: It's a Whimsical Woodland Baby Shower

Inspired by life in the city and a move into wilderness, this celebration featured nature's simple treasures — from rich greenery to cute critters — with an elegant twist.

Celebrating Roots

To welcome the new baby, these parents-to-be were preparing to leave their native Big Apple home and head north to Vermont. When it came time to plan the shower, celebrating their roots — both old and new — seemed in order. "We designed the shower to incorporate the mom's love for NYC at a quintessential Manhattan venue, The Nomad Hotel," says designer Michelle Edgemont. "And a new Vermont home, with lush greens and woodland details."

Going Green

To help transport guests to a truly nature-inspired space, whimsical greenery — plumosa, salal, ferns, leather leaves, and ruscus — adorned entryways, walls, and tablescapes.

Fully Flourished

For pops of color among the wooden elements, yellows, peaches, oranges, and a hint of blue made up the party's floral palette. Flower arrangements featured mums, scaboisa, ranuncuus, pompoms, freesia, billy balls, and spray roses.

Nosh & Nourish

Guests enjoyed family-style eats from house-made granola, yogurt, and summer berries to savory salmon crostini bites topped with capers and radish. For their main course, diners chose between short ribs with poached eggs and vegetable frittatas.

And One Sweet Finish

Dessert was none other than Mom's favorite NYC treat: cupcakes from Billy's Bakery

Hidden Treasures

Personalized touches were an important element to the shower's decor. These animal place cards, cut from birchwood, featured each guest's name engraved.

Talk about a special (extra-soft!) touch: these pillows are custom-painted animals from the party invites, onto cotton fabric and sewn. "I love creating tangible decor that the guest of honor can have in their homes after the party," Edgemont says.

As a token of thanks, each guest also received a special self-care treat: "Lush bath bombs were another favor — an ode to the mom's favorite pastime of taking luxuriously long baths."

To help the mom-to-be on late nights to come, guests wrote special "3 a.m. cards" so that "when she's up at 3 a.m. feeding her little one, she can read through these cards from dear family and friends that are filled with words of encouragement."

Keep Them Guessing

Here's a sweet and simple party game idea: have guests try and figure out whose baby photo is whose. Before the event, each guest was asked to send in an image of themselves as a tiny tot. Also scattered around the room were childhood photos of the parents-to-be, some mounted onto wooden blocks to add to the woodland theme.
