materials

  • Canvas cushion covers (Pictured: Canvas cushion covers, 20 by 20 inches, in Light Grey and Light Turquoise, $6 each, hm.com)
  • Linen pillow cover (Pictured: Linen pillow cover, 12 by 19 1/2 inches, in similar colors, $17, zarahome.com)
  • Transfer paper (Pictured: Transfer paper, in Red, $13 for 12 inches, saralpaper.com)
  • Pencil
  • Fabric marker
  • Scissors
  • Handheld iron

steps

  1. Remove pillow insert from pillow cover.
  2. Download and print one of our designs; cut out. Cut a piece of transfer paper to match.
  3. Lay transfer paper, dark-side down, onto cover. Place template, faceup, on top. With a pencil, trace pattern onto pillow cover, using medium pressure and checking as you go; remove paper.
  4. Use an opaque fabric paint marker in a contrasting color to trace over the pattern.
  5. Once dry, brush away excess transfer paper powder with a dry cloth.
  6. Set the pattern with an iron.
