Seashell Keychains

Kids headed back to school can savor a piece of summer by latching one of these DIY seashell key chains onto their backpacks. (They're fun for grownups too: make one for yourself and hang it on your tote bag.)

This idea comes from our friend Manal Aman. She used Dyed Seashells to achieve a bright, summery color on scallop shells.

  • Seashells
  • Craft drill and workstation (Pictured: Dremel rotary tool workstation, $45,
  • 3/16-inch tool bit
  • Beading cord
  • Seashell beads (Pictured: Cousins shell bead collection, $8.39,
  • Scissors
  • Key rings

  1. Set up Dremel workstation with Dremel tool fitted with 3/16-inch drill bit; pierce a hole into the tail end of the shell.

  2. Cut beading cord to desired length of your key chain. Tie one end to jump ring and begin beading small seashell beads from the other end; finish by tying one large seashell to the end.
