The One Swap That Can Transform — and Enhance! — Your Embroidery

Hint: it has to do with the fabric.

In a crafty world full of vibrant colors and vivid patterns that extend beyond the scope of the rainbow, the return back to black is a welcomed change. In fact, embroidery enthusiasts will be pleasantly surprised by how a tightly secured sheet of dark fabric can entirely change the look and aesthetic of a stitched design. Consider this: A solid black backing enhances the clarity of the design, every immaculate stitch, and every color to really make them pop. Feeling doubtful? We've rounded up a few of our favorite instances using black-fabric embroidery from Instagram to prove its power, and how crafters are beginning to use this trick more and more to their advantage.

Adrienne of @ellisandivy is a needlepoint pro when it comes to weaving beautiful blooms often on a black and white hoop canvas. Her fresh floral designs really do pop contrasting to the chic color combo we all are loving, black and white.

Or Katy of @katybiele who pairs vibrant, sometimes neon colored thread with black fabric to make modern hoop art.

Or take Elin Petronella of whose elaborately stitched designs of European streets will leave all wander-lusting for a great summertime adventure. A favorite design of Elin's features the French avenue, Avenue de Saxe. The hoop's subtle embroidered foliage makes the otherwise monochromatic hoop extraordinary. (Or as the French say, "C'est extraordinaire!")

So, why not give it a try?
