This idea comes from our friend Marwa Hayat of Enthralling Gumption. You don't need much to channel tropical vibes this summer — just a bar of air-dry clay, cutter, and our downloadable template. "Also, these tropical monstera leaf coasters will make up for a perfect gift for your plant-loving friend," she says.
- Air-dry clay
- White cardstock
- Dark green acrylic paint
Roll out your clay with a dowel on a protected surface, measured to approximately 1/4 inch thick.
Print monstera leaf template on cardstock paper and cut out using scissors.
Place the leaf template over your clay. (Tip: You can lightly spray it down with water before placing the template to make it easier to cut around it.)
With the help of a sharp cutter, trim across the leaf by following the leaf outline.
Remove excess clay. With slightly wet hands run through the rough edges of your leaf to smoothen them out. Repeat step 1-5 to make a couple of more coasters as desired. Leave your clay coasters to set in a dry place to harden, which can take up to 1-3 days.
Once hardened, use dark green acrylic paint and a brush to paint the surface of the clay coasters. Paint one side at a time.
Let dry completely, which can take 1-2 hours. You are now ready to serve your guests snacks and drinks without having to worry about your furniture.
