Floral Prints by Liberty of London Inspired This Baby's First Birthday

For one lucky little girl, her first birthday party was inspired by Liberty of London's sweet flowerscapes. Pops of color blossomed in party hats, handmade quilts, and even the desserts.

Meet the Birthday Girl

Proud parents Ryan Ly and Sara Straubel found the perfect inspiration for their daughter Margaux's birthday. "When I first spotted the Liberty of London party collection from Meri Meri, I knew it was the perfect theme for Margaux's 1st birthday," mom Sara says. "The iconic florals are so colorful and pretty and were the perfect compliment to the backyard celebration. London was also her first passport stamp so it felt fortuitous."

Sweets and Treats

"We wanted the day to feel special but not too fussy," Sara says. "Joan's on Third sandwiches for the adults and Puffs for the babies."

The caterers from Joan's on Third provided a menu of fresh, springtime dishes for easy snacking. A birthday is nothing without a spread of sweet baked goods. At Margaux's birthday party, the desserts evoked the vision of the spring prints such as light and airy cupcakes — some which were piped frosting to look like flowers — and a cake, all courtesy of Magnolia Bakery.

Sentimental Snapshots

Pictures from Margaux's first twelve months were printed onto vertical-hanging banners.

Macarons

These floral-inspired macarons from The Scootabake were a real showstopper on the dessert table.

Spring Abound

Liberty fabrics — and a light palette of pink, sky blue, and yellow — helped to inform every detail in the party decor. Simply take a close look at the cone hats, paper chains, plates, and comfy quilts. "The teepees and the handsewn quilts my mother made with Liberty fabric provided a shaded and playful space for our tiny guests," Sara says.

Birthday Wishes

This custom "Happy Birthday" sign in elegant calligraphy — courtesy of Letters to You — was displayed against the garden wall as a stunning backdrop.

In Full Bloom

One of the most lovely design elements were the tabletop floral arrangements. Earth Baby Flowers created arrangements with palettes that corresponded with the Liberty patterns Sara liked most. On the left: Salal (lemon leaf), Billy Ball, Veronica, Carnations, Poppy Pod, Seeded Eucalyptus and a touch of Hellebores. On the right: Larkspur, Hellebores, Ranunculus, Lisanthus and Poppy Pods.

A Thank You Gift

Befitting to the floral theme and garden settings, guests went home with favors: "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett for older reading and "The Secret Garden: A BabyLit Flowers Primer" by Jennifer Adams for kids.
