Gilded Terra-Cotta Pots

These pots of gold (and silver and copper) have a distressed finish, for a hint of glamour, not glitz.

  • Terra-cotta pot
  • Natural sponge
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Gilding Adhesive, $7 for 2 fl oz., michaels.com

  • Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Gilding Sheets in Gold, $12 for 12 sheets, michaels.com

  • Stippling brush
  • Pottery Sealer, by Design Master, $11, amazon.com

steps

  1. With a natural sponge, dab small amounts of gilding adhesive onto each pot in random areas. Let it dry until tacky.
  2. Press metallic leaf against the adhesive, shiny-side down. Burnish it with your fingertips; peel away the paper backing and use a stippling brush to "age."
  3. Finish with spray sealant.
