Scented Pinecones

Use favorite essential oil such as cinnamon, cloves, or evergreen.

  • Pinecones
  • Essential oil of your choice (cinnamon, clove, or evergreen)
  • Vinegar
  • Small container
  • Baking sheet
  • Plastic zip-close bag


  1. To prep pinecones, fill a small container with lukewarm water and dilute with vinegar. Wash pinecones in vinegar bath for 20 minutes, scrubbing any sap residue; let dry completely. (Tip: This rids them of dirt, sap residue, and any bugs.)
  2. Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Place pinecones on a baking tray and bake until the pinecones are fully open and their tips have changed to a honey-golden brown color. (Tip: depending on the size of your pinecones, this can take anywhere from 40 minutes to 1 hour.)
  3. Once completely cooled, transfer pinecones into a plastic bag. Add 20-30 drops of essential oil and shake to lather. Leave pinecones to soak in bag for a few days to a week. (Tip: The longer they soak, the stronger the scent.)
