In a world where everything has gone digital and can be artistically rendered with a simple click, it's refreshing to put pen (in this case, colored pencil) to paper. So we were happily surprised to hear that Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton has a secret crafty hobby.
Recently, it has been revealed that Her Royal Highness enjoys adult coloring books. (Same here, right?) And what kind of adult coloring books, you ask? Actually, Kate prefers the massively popular coloring book Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt and Coloring Book authored by Johanna Basford (and which happens to be one of our favorites too). Basford, who received an Order of the British Empire, had the opportunity to converse with Prince William, which is how she discovered Kate's secret pastime. "Prince William actually said that his wife likes to color in Secret Garden, which was really sweet," she recalls. "I think people are just craving a digital detox."
We can't say that we blame Kate for seeking a "digital detox." After all, she is the mother of two small children, a wife, and member of the Royal Family. If you are already a fan of adult coloring books, you may already be aware of the positive effects. True, you are coloring a pretty picture, but you are also escaping reality for a few blissful moments.
Naturally, you don't have to be a Royal Family member or an heiress to appreciate the beauty of coloring well into your prime. Now, can you please pass the colored pencils?
Better yet, repurpose a box of crayons and get coloring:
