These flags can be customized for any celebration. Here, we used it for a patriotic party, incorporating the iconic red, white, and blue. To create bigger waves, place thicker tools -- like markers -- under the ribbon as it dries.

  • Brush
  • Three-to-five-inch pieces of grosgrain ribbon
  • Fabric stiffener, like Aleene’s ($7,
  • Pencils
  • Placing plastic
  • Hot-glue gun
  • Wooden skewers

  1. Brush ribbon with fabric stiffener, then lay them on top of pencils to form the ripples. (Prevent sticking by placing plastic wrap between the ribbon and the tools.) Let set overnight.
  2. When dried, remove flags from pencils.
  3. Snip wooden skewers at various lengths (for different height and adding dimension to your presentation). Hot-glue flags to wooden skewers and display.
