Even the most well-received holiday feasts leave you with some food leftover. While extra mashed potatoes go fast and dessert is typically polished off the next day, ham can get relegated to the back of the fridge. It doesn't have to be that way thanks to our beloved ham casserole recipes that will put your leftovers to use in clever ways. They're easy to prepare, family-friendly, and include options suitable for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

If you have a hard time deciding between savory and sweet, start your morning off with a hybrid. Our Baked Stuffed French Toast, pictured here, is stuffed with ham and Gruyère cheese and finished with maple syrup. Baked French toast is much easier than cooking individual slices of the breakfast favorite on the stovetop. Other recipes here take classic casserole combinations like broccoli and cheese, potatoes and eggs, and spinach and rice and upgrade them with new and creative additions.

Another casserole dish that everyone knows and loves is macaroni and cheese. While you may not think of this comfort food as a traditional casserole, we say it is; its many layers of noodles and melted cheese result in a big baked pasta dish that your whole family can enjoy (and our recipe with ham slices has a protein-boost and welcome saltiness!). Be sure to top it off with homemade breadcrumbs for a golden-brown topping that gives the dish a lovely crunch.

If you didn't make ham for the holidays, not to worry. The meat can be found in just about any grocery store. Some of the following recipes in this collection also call for prosciutto—Italian dry-cured ham that typically comes thinly sliced, uncooked, and unsmoked. When you're searching for a dish that makes ham its star ingredient, look to our list of casserole recipes that highlight the protein and give you options for every meal of the day.

Make ahead meals are so convenient for the cook and this one actually tastes better when it's prepared a day early because the Dijon mustard and smoked paprika egg mixture has extra time to soak into the bread, ham, and cheese.

A whole head of cauliflower and a bunch of broccoli go into this vegetable-packed dish. The cheese sauce is made by puréeing skim milk, pecorino cheese, nutmeg, cauliflower, garlic, and shallots until it becomes silky and smooth. Top it off with toasted breadcrumbs for a contrast of creamy and crispy textures.

Traditional potato gratin is brought to the next level by the addition of asparagus and salty-sweet prosciutto. Additionally, two cheeses—sharp Pecorino Romano and earthy goat cheese—deepen the flavor of this instant classic.

Give ham the French treatment with this recipe that's like a croque monsieur in gratin form. Black Forest ham is wrapped around pleasantly bitter endives, while a rich béchamel sauce  and nutty Gruyère cheese are layered on top.

The secret to this macaroni and cheese is using a touch of cayenne pepper and a little sliced ham, they add spicy and salty elements to the dish. Don't forget the double dose of cheese—the combination of yellow and white cheddar impart a sharpness and creamy texture when melted and bubbling.
