Tour Martha's Skylands Home and Bid Our Interns Farewell: The Latest from Martha's Blog
A Trip to Skylands
Every summer, I try to spend as much time as possible at Skylands, my home in Seal Harbor, Maine.
I always enjoy my trips there, especially when friends and family are able to join me.
Here I am with my Chow Chow puppy on the way to Skylands, my home in Maine. She's very comfortable on the plane - the ride lulled her right to sleep.
The Colors of Summer at Skylands
This summer is already going by too quickly, but all the plantings at my Skylands home have been thriving this season and look so very vibrant and lush. Here are some recent photos - I hope you enjoy them.
In Love with Lilies
Pollen is an important part of a lily's anatomy, but it is notorious for staining flesh and fabric. To prevent pollen staining, just cut off the pollen tipped stamens.
The Sphinxes of Skylands
Here was one of the two glazed terra-cotta sphinxes watching over the terrace and guarding its entrance to my house. These sphinxes were designed by Emile Muller.
A Delicious Beef and Vegetable Terrine
Savory summer vegetables picked fresh from my garden are some of the best elements for making a delicious French inspired terrine.
A terrine commonly refers to a French forcemeat loaf made with coarsely chopped ingredients. I have made several terrines on my television shows - check my web site for terrine recipes.
Chef Pierre's Special Recipe
It was beautiful to see all the different layers of beef and vegetables - another most delicious meal by Chef Pierre Schaedelin of PS Tailored Events. Thanks, Pierre.
My Latest Vegetable Harvest
If you have a vegetable garden, how is it doing this year?
My vegetable gardens at my farm in Bedford are looking great this season, and doing very well. The most recent harvest brought in so many beautiful vegetables - just in time for my trip to Maine. Here, delicious zucchini and pattypan squash. Visit my web site for season produce recipe ideas.
I grew so many wonderful varieties and colors of carrots!
A Farewell Brunch for Our 2015 Summer Interns
Our summer interns are off to start another year in the world of academia!
At the beginning of the season, we welcomed 48-college students from across the country into our internship program. For 10-weeks, these young adults received mentoring and hands-on experience in various areas including product design, editorial development, and business management.
Last week, our human resources team in charge of our internship program organized a farewell brunch to thank them for their hard work and to wish them well in the year ahead.
Thanks for all your hard work. We wish you all the best!
