Ornament Tree

Branch out with a wall-mounted "tree."

Source: Martha Stewart

Skill Level: Advanced

Time: 3 hours

Watch Martha complete this project.

  • 6 branches (1 to 1 1/4 inches in diameter, starting with 6-inch length and ending with 36-inch length)

  • Hand saw

  • Drill with 1/4-inch bit

  • Martha Stewart Living Snowberry wire-edged ribbon (in-store only)

  • Brass wire

  • Twigs

  • Bracket for wall hanging

  1. Cut branches into pieces from small to large, all 6 inches apart in length, starting with a 6-inch branch at the top and increasing in length to a 36-inch branch at the bottom. This will form a tree in a uniform triangle shape.

  2. Using a 1/4-inch drill bit, drill a hole in each end of each branch, about 1 1/2 inches from the edge. Drill on the diagonal so that ribbon threaded through the holes will be straight.

  3. Cut a piece of ribbon long enough to create both sides of your tree, with some extra length for knotting. Twist one end and thread through the holes on one side, from the smallest branch to the largest. Note: Tie a knot below each branch to prevent the wood from slipping on the ribbon. Repeat with the other end of ribbon down the opposite side of the tree.

  4. Be sure to leave some extra ribbon at the top for hanging.

  5. To decorate, thread brass wire though ornament top and wrap around branch. Hang ball or icon ornaments with brass wire. Drill small holes in branch and insert twigs to attach clip-on ornaments.

  6. Hang on the wall with a bracket and enjoy a festive display.
