Elbow Patches for Sweaters

A bright color is a modern tweak to the tweedy college professor's elbow patch -- all you need is a scrap.

  • Fabric scrap

  • Pins

  • Micro-punch

  • Needle and embroidery floss or craft thread


  1. Enlarge this template to 200 percent; pin onto fabric.

  2. Cut out and punch holes around edge, 1/4 inch apart and 1/4 inch from the edge.

  3. Try on sweater, and pin patch in place.

  4. Hand-sew in place through holes.
