Knit a Cable Stitch

The braided, ropelike cable is much easier to stitch than it appears. Basically, you knit as usual but hold a few stitches in reserve on a cable needle until you need them.

  • Left-hand needle
  • Cable needle
  • Yarn

Cable Stitch Knit How-To

1. Slide 4 stitches off left-hand needle onto cable needle; hold cable needle in front of work.

2. Knit 4 stitches from left-hand needle.

3. Now, knit the 4 stitches off the cable needle. Continue across stitches on left-hand needle as directed by pattern.
