Flowers are a welcome addition to any special gathering, but they carry a particular celebratory resonance in spring. As outdoor greenery begins to sprout, what better nod to the season than fresh blooms indoors?

For an alternative to cut flowers, consider potted floral plants -- they last much longer and should keep for a few months. Be sure to water regularly and deadhead faded flowers to encourage new blooms. Once the greenery begins to brown or look tired, transfer the plant to the garden -- it should come back in the spring.

Ranunculus, tulips, phlox, violas, and stonecrop sedum all make beautiful, inexpensive choices for potted Easter and Mother's Day centerpieces.
