For a one-of-a-kind Valentine's Day gift, fill an oversize heart box with small gifts handpicked for your one-and-only.
The Martha Stewart Show, February 2011
Fold a large piece of paper in half. Draw half a heart shape along fold, cut out through both layers, and unfold. Use this piece of paper as a template to trace heart onto 1/2-inch foam core.
Cut the heart shape from the foam core with a box cutter. (Cut each curve with one motion to make a clean edge.)
Use spray adhesive to adhere a large piece of red paper to one side of the foam core heart. Trim excess red paper from around edge of heart.
To make box sides, cut 3-inch-wide strips of red mat board. Starting at the point of the heart, use hot glue to attach a strip of mat board perpendicular, with red side facing in, to the edge of the foam core. Piece together more pieces of mat board with masking tape to reach around the entire edge of the heart, if needed.
Color the top edge of the mat board and any other exposed white seams with a red permanent marker.
Starting at the point of the heart, wrap 3-inch-wide red ribbon around the entire outside of the heart. Attach ribbon to box with an adhesive roller. With craft glue, carefully attach red cording or trim all around inside bottom edge of box and top edge of sides.
Fill box with coffee filters. Place Valentine's Day treats and gifts inside each coffee filter.
