Put fine china on display without a breakfront or hutch. You can keep dishware on a dining-room side table, protected from dust and mischievous cats, on covered cake stands and under bell jars and cloches (the glass domes gardeners use to protect plants from the cold). Buy your own collection at home-supply or gardening stores, or look for vintage glass covers at flea markets and secondhand shops.
China should be handled with caution to avoid chipping it or scratching the glaze. Large baking cups, paper plates, and felt rounds are just right for cradling dishes without adding bulk. Alternate plates and inserts, then carefully lower a glass cover of appropriate size over the stack.
