Glittered Floral Egg Basket

Being blue has never felt so good. Especially since little presents, such as a vintage Steiff bluebird, are tucked inside these shimmering German egg boxes. They make for an extra-special family tradition -- each year, every person can find a gift inside an egg; this lucky recipient is waiting patiently to open hers. The eggs are made of sturdy cardboard, which we painted shades of blue and covered in glass glitter (you could also decorate blown-out eggs in the same way). Then we added silk and paper flowers and leaves. They're brimming out of a basket with a gray wash: Mix a dab each of blue and white acrylic paints with four ounces of water. Brush it on the inside of the basket to test color; adjust if necessary with more blue, white, or water. Paint entire basket with wash, and let dry. Vintage velvet leaves are twined around the handle.
