Martha's friend April Collier designed a Barbie Birthday Cake for her daughter Carson. April and Carson demonstrate how to make this unique cake: They surround a Barbie doll with a cake skirt, which they embellish with tinted frosting.
When assembling the cake, use a new doll and wrap it in plastic before putting it in the center of the cake. Candles should absolutely not be used, because Barbie's hair is flammable. Miniature versions of the cake can be made with small cake tins and Kelly dolls -- and serve as wonderful party favors or place-setting decorations.
