Chickens can be wonderfully rewarding pets, for their fresh eggs as well as their friendly nature. Which breed is right for you?

White Silkie
An old breed of chicken, the white silkie (pictured) has fluffy fur, turquoise earlobes, and a pom-pom on its head called a crest.

Polish Hens
With a bouffant crest of feathers falling in a V-shape comb, Polish hens are a tame breed whose behavior can sometimes be wacky, since their crest limits vision.

Modern Game
Modern game chickens are predominantly show birds with extremely long legs and a tiny tail.

Barred Plymouth Rock
An American breed developed in New England in the 1800s, this chicken is recognized for its black stripes and curved saddle feathers.

Cochin
Cochin are known for their large size and sweet personalities.
