For most people, holidays are about tradition. But every year Marcie McGoldrick, holiday editor for Martha Stewart Living, comes up with new ideas for classic crafts -- like Easter eggs, jack-o'-lanterns, and Christmas ornaments. Halloween has become her favorite holiday because "we can go a little crazy," she says. For one story, she carved dozens of pumpkins and experimented with a bunch of different themes before settling on bugs and birds. "I think about how to take something beautiful and make it creepy --but still beautiful," Marcie says. This approach is the signature of her stories, all of which have a wonderful sense of whimsy and sophistication. Marcie has a master's degree in industrial design, and spends her free time making porcelain dishes and jewelry.
