As the Editorial Director for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Margaret Roach oversees all the company's books and magazines, including Martha Stewart Living, Everyday Food, Martha Stewart Weddings, Blueprint, and Body+Soul. She began her journalism career at the New York Times, and then went to Newsday, first as its fashion editor and later as its garden editor. In 1994, her green thumb led her to Martha Stewart Living, where she became the magazine's first garden editor. "If I were asked to describe myself, one of the very first words I'd use is gardener -- even before editor," she says. Margaret's 2.5-acre garden near the Berkshires in Massachusetts is more than 15 years old, and is open to visitors regularly each summer as part of the nationwide charitable Garden Conservancy Open Days program. It is also the site of the photographs in her book, "A Way to Garden," named Best Garden Book of 1998 by the Garden Writers of America.
