Baking with Dr. Maya Angelou
Dr. Maya Angelou is an author, poet, historian, songwriter, playwright, dancer, stage and screen producer, director, performer, singer, and civil-rights activist. The list of her published works includes more than 30 titles. In 1993, Dr. Angelou wrote and delivered a poem, "On the Pulse of the Morning," at the inauguration for President Bill Clinton at his request. And in 2006, Angelou became a radio talk show host for XM Satellite Radio's "Oprah and Friends" channel. Today, Dr. Angelou joins Martha to make Caramel Cake from her new cookbook, "Hallelujah! The Welcome Table: A Lifetime of Memories with Recipes."

Today, gardener Bill Christopher, owner of Christopher Ranch, stops by to show you how to grow garlic in your own backyard. Established in 1956, Christopher Ranch grows, packs, and ships more than 60 million pounds of fresh California-grown garlic each year for retailers and food-service providers while continuously improving farming, food safety, and agricultural practices. Christopher Ranch cofounded the world-famous Gilroy Garlic Festival, which takes place the last weekend of July each year.
