Kids' Paper Scroll

If your children are budding artists, they probably enjoy pursuing projects independently. Encourage your children's creative aspirations by providing them with small, portable worktables of their own. Equip the tables with conveniently mounted rolls of paper, and no matter where they are, your kids can portray their surroundings.

Tools and Materials
Drill with 3/16-inch drill bit
Small worktable
No. 6 screw eyes
1/2-inch diameter dowel, cut to fit width of table
No. 8 dowel screws
Decorative drawer pulls
Parting strip
Wood screws
Washers
Rolls of assorted papers

Making a Kids' Scroll How-To

1. Using a 3/16-inch drill bit, drill two holes on the inside of two legs at least 5 inches from the underside of the table. If your table is rectangular, use the two legs at one of the short ends.

2. Screw a No. 6 screw eye into each hole.

3. Using a 1/16-inch drill bit, drill a hole into the end of the dowel. Insert a #8 dowel screw into the hole. Attach a drawer pull. Thread the dowel through the eye, and attach a second pull to set dowel in place.

4. Cut a parting strip to the width of the table. Predrill two holes at each end of the far side of the table from the dowel assembly. Using wood screws and washers as spacers, screw the parting strips into the predrilled holes.

5. Thread dowel through roll paper, reattach, and thread through parting strip.
