Witch in Flight Pumpkin
![]() Glittering stars guide a cackling clip-art witch on her flight across the night sky. Her eyes and broom glow thanks to cutouts in her form and in the pumpkin. The moon and stars provide backlit radiance; the pumpkin is punched with square brass tubing to create the stars. 1. Cut a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin, and scoop out the insides. Photocopy witch clip art to desired size; cut out. 2. To make glowing details, use a craft knife to cut out shapes from clip art (the eyes and parts of the broom; we also cut a crescent shape for the moon). To make a carving template, trace cutouts in design onto white paper. (For tips, see the how-to for Masked Pumpkins.) Position template on pumpkin, and trace shapes by poking holes with an awl; remove template. Using a miniature saw, cut out shapes. 3. Make stars by punching holes with a length of square brass tubing. Cut off the rest of clip-art moon to make a crescent moon, if desired. Align clip art with cutouts, and affix with double-sided tape. Sources |
