Spa-Themed Sleepover Birthday Party

What do you get when you combine pajamas, facials, manicures, and fun? The perfect menu for a spa-themed sleepover birthday party. (Warning: Moms may want to get in on the action.) At this full-service celebration, little girls get treated to facial masks and have their nails done in any shade they choose. Naturally, this deluxe package wouldn't be complete without delicious cake and, of course, loads of laughs. Partygoers will have a blast creating masks with ingredients taken right from the refrigerator and applying them to one another, while Mom or an older sister can play manicurist. All that's required is that guests bring their pajamas, sleeping bags, and enough silly stories to share all night long.

Invitation How-To
This spa party is by invitation only -- no walk-ins or little brothers allowed! Each guest receives a sleep mask in the mail along with a gift certificate that's good for one spa evening.

Sleep Mask How-To
Copy the templates; cut out. Trace the large one onto blue felt and the small onto white. Cut out (use scalloping scissors for the large one). Squeeze a line of glue around the blue felt, 1/2 inch in from the edge. Lay two 16-inch ribbon ties on glue at sides. Place white felt on top, and press. To use as invitations, print the information on card stock and cut into tags. Punch a hole at the top and slip it over ribbon.

Decorations
For a more festive party, customize a store-bought garland by adding tissue-paper stars. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to trace stars on stacks of tissue, and cut out 10 to 15 at a time. Staple to garland. If you like, drape a store-bought beaded garland over fishing line.

Favor How-To
Vinyl favor bags provide all the essentials for grooming on the go: a comb, lip gloss, soap, hair elastics, bobby pins, washcloth, and bubble bath.

Fold up the bottom of a 16-by-6-inch sheet of patterned vinyl, allowing for a 2-inch flap. Sew the sides. Place two Velcro dots on the bag for closure. Fill it with grooming supplies.

Spa Treatments
Nailing It
It's a very busy night at the manicure station. To make sure the salon is running on schedule, a clipboard is kept on hand to help keep track of the guests' appointments.

Mask Appeal
Far left and near left: The house specialty is a mask made from avocado and plain yogurt that will leave your face feeling refreshed. For one girl's face mask, mash a quarter of an avocado in a bowl, then stir in one tablespoon of yogurt. Spread the mixture all over face with a sponge, avoiding eyes, and wash off mask after 15 minutes.

Pamper Time
The juicy secret to smooth skin in an instant? Lemons. They're a scent-sational way to slough away those stubborn rough spots on elbows, knees, and ankles

Menu
Warm Vanilla Milk
Chocolate ZZZ Cookies
Fluffy Lemon Buttermilk Cake
