Mesh Bag

A day at the beach needn't end with a bag full of sand.

Tote How-To
To make this tote, cut a 36-by-18-inch piece of fiberglass mesh and 6 lengths of 1 1/2-inch-wide grosgrain ribbon (two at 60 inches, two at 20 inches, and two at 18 inches). Iron the four shorter ribbons in half lengthwise. Sandwich one 18-inch side of mesh in one 18-inch ribbon. Pin, then stitch in place close to ribbon edge. Repeat on opposite side.

Sew ends of 60-inch ribbons together with a 1/2-inch seam allowance, making a large loop. Fold mesh in half widthwise; press to crease. Unfold, and line up seams in ribbon loop with crease in mesh (points A and B); pin.

Starting at point A, sew the ribbon along its outer edge to end of the mesh (overlapping 18-inch ribbon); turn corner and continue sewing lengthwise down entire opposite edge; turn corner and stitch back to point A. Repeat, starting at point B. Fold mesh along crease. To finish sides, sandwich each in a 20-inch ribbon, leaving an inch overhang at each end. Pin, then sew in place. Fold back overhangs, and stitch.
