An aggressive ground cover that will quickly brighten a partly shady to shady area, variegated goutweed's compound white-edged leaves are gently toothed. It bears inconspicous white blooms in early summer.

Goutweed spreads by underground, horizontal stems called rhizomes. Strawberries and German irises also grow from rhizomes.

general maintenance:

Remove old foliage in spring. Goutweed can spread aggressively; control this by removing plants on perimeter of planting. Divide in spring or fall to increase plants.

how to sow/plant:

Plant in spring or fall in a partly shady to sunny site. Set plants at the same depth they were in pots, spacing 12 to 18 inches apart. Water after planting, and mulch to conserve moisture.
