Three perfectly round pumpkins are first carved with a beautifully rendered starburst pattern that is reminiscent of a Tiffany-style lamp. Then they are fitted with small scallop-edged tops and displayed on small bracket shelves. The elegant lights radiate softly, casting flickering shadows up the wall. Prepare the larger pumpkin by cutting a hole in its side (this will become the top of the sconce), and hollow it out until the flesh is 1/2 inch thick. Using a small wood gouge, carve a shallow starburst design in the rind of the bottom surface of the pumpkin, but don't completely pierce the flesh (this will become the front).
Cut off the bottom of the smaller pumpkin and hollow out the flesh to 1/2 inch thick. Cut off the top of the pumpkin, then use the template to create a scalloped edge. Add decorative detail to each scallop with a small wood gouge. Set small pumpkin on top of the larger one; secure with toothpicks.
