Why should lingerie have a lock on lace? Used as a stencil with metallic paints, the fabric transforms porcelain tiles into softly burnished, intricately patterned trivets and coasters.

Cut pieces of lace to cover tiles. Mist 1 side of lace with spray adhesive; adhere it to a tile, smoothing any wrinkles.

Spray-paint with your desired color: Hold can 6 inches from surface, sweeping slowly from side to side. Let dry for 1 minute.

Carefully peel off lace; place on another tile (you can reuse one piece 3 or 4 times; you don't need to reapply adhesive).

Let dry. Attach felt or cork surface protectors to the undersides.
