Trimming a Lampshade

1. Start with a plain paper or cloth shade. To cut fabric on the bias, fold in half diagonally. For a finished 1/2-inch-wide strip, cut fabric strip along the diagonal, 1 1/4 inches wide and 1 inch longer than the circumference of the shade.

2. To make bias tape, place strip facedown on ironing board. Make a narrow fold along one long edge; iron flat. Fold and iron other edge so both edges just barely overlap.

3. Use dabs of hot glue or fabric glue to tack bias tape to top of shade; fold raw end under where it overlaps the other end before gluing. Repeat for bottom edge.
