Easter Basket Favors

From:

Martha Stewart Living

For a festive Easter table, transform ordinary paper cups into favor baskets filled with chocolate bunnies and jelly beans.

Tools and Materials
Paper cups
White, green, and yellow crepe paper
20-gauge thread-wrapped floral wire
White cardboard
Scissors
Small hole punch
Floral tape
Craft glue

Easter Basket Favors How-To
1. Trim the top of a paper cup to make it 2 3/4 inches tall. Cut a strip of white crepe paper slightly wider and 1 inch taller than the cup. Wrap the paper around the cup, and glue it in place, tucking the excess paper inside.

2. Punch two small holes at opposite sides of the cup, close to the top edge. Cut a piece of floral wire to a desired length for the handle. Loop the wire through the holes from the inside out, and fold the ends to secure the handle.

3. Cut out a strip of green crepe paper slightly wider and 1 inch taller than the cup. Accordion-fold the green paper into 1-inch pleats. Using scissors, cut the top of the paper to resemble grass. Unfold, and wrap around the cup, gluing at the seam.

4. For the daisy, accordion-fold a 4-by-2-inch strip of white crepe paper into six or eight 1/2-inch pleats. Cut the paper into a petal shape. Cut a 5/8-inch-diameter circle out of white cardboard. Place the cardboard circle in the center of a 1 1/2-inch square of yellow crepe paper; gather the yellow paper around the circle, and twist the excess to create a stemlike nub. Wrap the white paper petals around the yellow nub to create the flower. Fasten, and attach the daisy to the basket handle with floral tape.

I made 18 of these for Easter dinner favors and they were very well received! Rather than the daisy, I added a bow. Once I put one together, the others went very quickly. I used double-sided tape...made the job easier and much faster than glue.

This is the cutest idea which I would have made for my guests if it hadn't arrived the day AFTER Easter. Please send craft ideas with enough time prior to the holiday to use the ideas.
