Protect a well-dressed dinner table without sacrificing formality by using pairs of linen napkins as slipcovers for cork trivets.

Linen Trivets How-To
For each trivet, you'll need two or three pieces of cork cut from a roll of thin bulletin-board cork, available at your local stationers; measure cork to fit trimly inside a set of matching napkins. Paste the cork layers together with white craft glue. Sew napkins together along three sides, keeping stitches close to the edge so as not to compete with the design; slide the cork in on the open side. Remove cork after dinner, and launder the napkins with other table linens.
